A Walk in the Park

Pedro Etura

The parks and green areas of Zaragoza are part of the city’s identity.

The city and municipality of Zaragoza have a combined area of 96,887 hectares, making it the ninth-largest city in Spain. Of this, only 13% is urban development, whilst the rest is occupied by green areas and nature.

In Zaragoza, there are 7 different types of ecosystem: river, wetlands, forest, steppe, farmland, green urban areas and the Imperial Canal of Aragón.

.

The convergence of three rivers in the city (Ebro, Huerva and Gállego), as well as its position between four structural platforms (Castellar, Alcubierre, La Muela and La Plana), have resulted in fantastic landscapes, important environments and a rich diversity of fauna and flora.

You dont have to go far to get in touch with nature. Some of the different city’s green areas and parks that we suggest you visit are:

Luis Buñuel Water Park

This urban park of more than 120 hectares was created for Expo-2008. It’s around two kilometres long and today is like a lung for the city of Zaragoza.

We recommend you take a guided tour of the Galacho de Juslibol, where you’ll be able to observe the contrast between the steppe area and the farmland.

And if you prefer to do routes on your own, Zaragozanda offers you an interesting program of Periurban Routes through Zaragoza, which is based on the practice of hiking and the use of urban transport.

Periurban Routes.
