La Seo: the Cathedral of a Thousand Faces
The Cathedral of the Savior, affectionately known as La Seo, is a place with a long history that dates back to Roman times, when the Forum of Caesaraugusta was located on the same site. Later, this was also the location of the Mayor Mosque of Saraqusta, whose minaret still partially remains in the current tower.
Inside, visitors can explore Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque chapels, and admire the main altarpiece, a masterpiece of European Gothic art.
One of the most emblematic and fascinating elements of the cathedral is the wall of the Parroquieta de San Miguel, located outside the chapel of the same name.
Built in the 14th century, it is adorned with a complex and delicate brick and ceramic ornamentation, which creates an intricate play of geometric shapes and plant motifs.
Patterns of stars and intertwined bows unfold in a visual tapestry that reflects the mastery of Mudejar artisans. The glazed ceramic borders in green and white tones provide a touch of color and luminosity, enhancing the beauty of the whole.
This wall is not only a work of art, but also a symbol of cultural dialogue between the Christian and Islamic communities of the time. The combination of decorative elements from both traditions creates a visual harmony that speaks of a peaceful and fruitful coexistence.
