The statue of Pignatelly was designed for the Small Square, which bears the same name (present-day Aragon Square), where it stayed until 1904, date when it was moved to its current location. The monument is raised to commemortae the 150th anniversary of the construction of the Imperial Canal, which was finished due to decisive promotion by Ramon Pignatelly. Its author, the sculptor, Antonio Palau, carries out a piece of work in academic and realist style, which is inspired by the portrait of the canon, painted by Goya.
