Christianity became firmly rooted in Roman Zaragoza, as is reflected by the high number of martyrs from the earliest persecutions of the 3rd century when the city was the Episcopal seat. The Hieronymus monastery of Santa Engracia was built during the 15th and 16th centuries, on top of a Christian-Roman necropolis which contained the two marble sarcophagus that are today kept in its crypt: "Receptio Animae" and the "Petrina Trilogy" which date from the 4th century.
