La Almozara Bridge
After the introduction of the railway in Zaragoza in 1861, the North and South stations were linked by a track that crossed the river on this Railway Bridge, originally inaugurated on October 1 from 1870.
In 1947, and after various stability problems, Renfe commissioned a new three-track railway bridge from civil engineer Eduardo Torroja. One of them soon came into use; another, never used; and the third was never built.
In the 1970s the trains stopped running and it was planned to open it to traffic to allow communication to the left bank due to the expansion of the city. Still in March 1983, the bases of the contest for the construction of the new bridge were announced, which was finally awarded to Huarte S.A., inaugurating the reform on September 30, 1987.
At one end of the bridge, we can find a stainless steel locomotive signed by Antonio Martínez Santonja, which recalls the original function of the bridge.
In 2009 it was transformed turning the central part into a pedestrian boulevard with a bike lane.
