Tapestry Museum
The Catedral del Salvador – La Seo, owns and houses one of the best collections in the world of tapestries from the Flemish school of the XV, XVI and XVII centuries, woven in the famous European workshops of Arras, Tournai and Brussels.
The Museo de Tapices is installed in the Sacristy and rooms on the first floor of La Seo de Zaragoza. Its collection is made up of more than 60 Flemish tapestries and 6 confectioners, which kings, archbishops, canons and the council itself donated to the Seo and which, due to their richness, quality, rarity and antiquity, constitute one of the jewels of Spanish heritage.
Do you know what the functions of the tapestries were?
Throughout history they have been insulators against cold and humidity, they have also had a decorative function, they had a didactic nature and served to spread images, devotions and artistic models.
