Valentine's Day
Do you want to spend an unforgettable day accompanied by someone special? Take a look at everything we offer and enjoy Valentine's Day in Zaragoza to the fullest!
It is recommended to accompany the reading of this article with the song Hada Chalada, by Enrique Bunbury.
We woke up in Zaragoza in the best possible way. Climbing to the heights!
Inside one of the towers of the Basilica del Pilar, the San Francisco tower, a modern glass elevator will take us to contemplate the city from a bird's eye view, bathed in the morning light and framed by the Pyrenean mountain range, which can be seen in the distance.
We can purchase a joint voucher to visit the tower, the Cathedral of the Savior, the Pilarist Museum, the Tapestry Museum and, if we have time, the Crystal Rosary Museum. Tickets here
But romanticism is not only found in great monuments and infinite landscapes. There are small corners that end up telling us great stories.
If we walk along Alfonso Street and Paseo de la Independencia (taking the opportunity to do some shopping) we will reach one of the most beautiful places of the Aragonese Renaissance, the Patio de la Infanta. A work of art commissioned by the merchant Gabriel Zaporta as a wedding gift for his second wife, decorated with pairs of lovers, allegories of Cupid and figurative columns with the zodiacal symbols of the date of their nuptials. A song of love and a wish for good omens for your newly begun marriage.
And speaking of love stories, you should not miss the one Verdi tells us in his famous opera Il Trovatore, set in none other than one of the most inspiring places in the city: the Aljafería Palace.
Manrique and Doña Leonor love each other, but she is also desired by Count Luna who, overcome by jealousy, takes revenge on the two lovers in the most cruel way and ends up locking Manrique in the "tower of homage" of the palace, which we know today as Torre del Trovador, in memory of this story.
We are not going to spoil this wonderful soap opera, but we will say that, beyond tragic love stories, it is essential to visit this medieval palace built by King Al-Muqtadir in the 11th century and later expanded by the Aragonese monarchs .
We invite you to walk under the arcades of the Golden Hall and through the rooms of the palace of the Catholic Monarchs. Ah! And don't forget to take a photo in the Patio de los Naranjos... as a souvenir. Book it now!
And there are small corners of the world that have a special magic and end up inspiring the most creative minds to carry out immortal works... and then there is the case of Miguel Ángel Lamata, who was able to bring an entire declaration of love for the land where he was born.
Lamata tells us in “Our Lovers” the story of two complete strangers who enjoy and deliberate about romanticism while visiting some of the most beautiful places in Zaragoza.
Which of them inspires us the most? A first date at a Contemporary Art museum as impressive as the IAACC Pablo Serrano? A romantic lunch at one of the downtown establishments? Or should we walk under the groves of Parque Grande José Antonio Labordeta? Or we can also use the tram, as Our lovers do, to move around the city and not miss a single plan.
And back to the Historic Center... what is left for us to discover? Maybe it's time to treat yourself and enjoy the tastiest part of the trip. Did you know that Aragon was the first place in Europe where the chocolate recipe as we know it today was made? Since then Aragon, and also Zaragoza, have enjoyed a rich and varied chocolate tradition that you can discover with the Chocopass voucher. A delight!
But we cannot close this intense day without contemplating the sunset from the Stone Bridge. At that time, the most emblematic buildings of the Historic Center will gradually be illuminated: the Pilar Basilica, the Seo, the Lonja... while the waters of the Ebro are colored with a golden light that transforms the banks into a movie landscape and the The sun sets little by little behind the imposing figure of Moncayo.
What more could you ask for?
Zaragoza wants to make you fall in love!
