Zaragoza History Centre occupies a newly constructed building which reinterprets the space occupied by the church, cloisters and convent of San Agustín. This building also includes historical elements which have been preserved on the site such as the bell tower and the church´s baroque façade dating from the 18th century.
The façade of the former church has been used as the main entrance to the History Centre. In the restoration of façades, as far as has been possible, all original elements have been preserved, including decorative and heraldic motifs. The crypt of the former church, now basement 1, has also been incorporated into this space.
The building has two basements, ground floor, first and second floor which give a total useful area of 6,585.70 m2. The site of the former cloisters is now a gardened area to which visitors have access.
Over 11.5 million euros have been invested in Zaragoza History Centre of which 8,309,737 euros have been assigned to the building and 3,425,768.99 euros to its museum contents. The project has been co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
