City Networks >> What are they?

Zaragoza is an active member of several regional, national, European, and world networks of cities.

The processes of integration, the increasing interdependence and the openness of economies, have stressed on the one hand competence among cities and territories and, on the other, the necessity to create complementary links and relations.

Cities articulate their territories around networks, searching for forms of coordinated actions on a national, European, and world level. From 1985, city networks have undergone an enormous boom, becoming a fundamental strategy for improving competitiveness in big and medium-size cities.

Networks are also an additional system for international solidarity and for applying redistributive policies, and an effective vehicle to provide common ground for cities in world politics.
