PRESENTATION

I welcome you to the international Website of Zaragoza City Council, International Zaragoza: Gateway to Europe and the World.

Zaragoza is a historical city with a long multicultural tradition. During more than two thousand years of its existence, it has been influenced by four great cultures, Roman, Muslim, Jewish, and Christian, which have left their footprint on the city.  Its rich past and strategic position in the South of Europe, is present again and represents great challenges for the city, and among them, to boost "local actions abroad" to place Zaragoza in the European map and to open our city to the World.
Zaragoza is living a special moment of international projection. After having hosted the International Exhibition 2008 with the theme "Water and Sustainable Development", it is also the United Nations´s Secretariat for the International Decade of Water 2005-2015. Zaragoza belongs to many networks of cities, participates in various Community programs and is establishing links with cities of the five continents through town twinnings and cooperation agreements. Our Website pretends to show the international activities of our city with a clear vocation for service and information to the citizens and the various municipal services of Zaragoza, which are invited to participate in an active way in the networks of cities, Community programs, and activities organized by citizens and groups from twinning cities. Thus, they will contribute to the internationalization and development that the citizens demand for  Zaragoza of the 21st century. Welcome!
