Participation in European Networks

The European Observatory

The European Observatory Cities and towns for all, is a tool created to add dynamism to the accesibility in cities and towns and its services, and create new models of management taking into account the characteristics and interests of all the citizens, achieving an interaction between the city and its citizens and favouring the positive development of people with disabilities.
The new city model set out by the Observatory is based on the criteria of the Declaration of Barcelona The city and people with disabilities promulgated in 1995 in the framework of the European Congress in the aforementioned city. Up to now, almost 400 cities have adhered to the Barcelona Declaration.

Eurocities.

ciudades ave It is the main European network of cities. Created in 1986, Eurocities is a network made up of 120 metropolitan cities, 105 from the European Union and 15 from other European countries. Eurocities is opened to every municipal government democratically chosen and to economic and scientific partners (chambers of commerce and universities) in cities with more than 250,000 inhabitants. Headquarters are in Brussels, Belgium.

European Forum for Urban Safety.

ciudades ave It was created in 1987 in Barcelona under the Council of Europe´s auspices and the driving force of Mr. Gilbert Bonnemaison. EFUS joins around 300 local and territorial entities of Europe and is specialized in urban safety, extending its national actions through national forums such as those of Spain, Italy, and Portugal. Headquarters are in Paris, France.

ciudades ave Network of Metropolitan Regions and Areas.
The Network of Metropolitan Regions and Areas was founded in 1996 during the Conference of Metropolitan Regions of Glasgow, city that chairs the network. It is a professional network with more than 40 members devoted to the formulation and implementation of strategies, policies, programs and projects related to plan and develop metropolitan areas.

Energie-Cités.

ciudades aveIt is an association of European local authorities to promote local sustainable energy policy and the development of renewable energies in cities. It was created in 1990 and it comprises 110 members from 21 European countries. The headquarters are in the French city of Besançon and in Brussels, Belgium.

European Cities for Tourism

ciudades ave European Cities Tourism was founded in 1991 and today links 95 member cities from more than 30 countries. ECT aims at strengthening tourism in member cities by communicating information, sharing knowledge and expertise, and working together on an operational level. Headquarters are in Dijon, France.

European Federation of Conference Towns

It has members in approximately 30 European countries. EFCT has two member categories: cities and regions members of the Federation (full membership); and organizations and firms of the congress sector (partner membership). Headquarters are in Brussels, Belgium.

C-6 Network.

It is an economic association of European interest created in January 1991, formed by six member cities: Toulouse, Montpellier, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Zaragoza and Valencia, who have joined forces for a cooperation program in order to contribute to European integration and to consolidate the potential of these cities.

Coalition of Cities against Racism.

The European Coalition of Cities against Racism is an initiative launched by UNESCO, and constituted during the 4th European Conference of Cities for Human Rights held on December 2004 in Nüremberg, Germany. It is a network of cities interested in sharing experiences in order to improve their policies to fight racism, and draw up a Common Action Plan. At the moment, there are 50 European cities in the Network, and the Spanish section also has been constituted.

Les Rencontres

The Association of European Cities and Regions for Culture Les Rencontres, created by and for the elected members of Culture and Education of the different territorial collectivities from the European Union and the rest of the continent, is an European platform for cooperation, debate, and action in the scope of the cultural policies of the European city councils, cities, provinces, and regions.
