Literary Zaragoza

Welcome to Zaragoza traveller!

You have finally arrived at the gates of this bi-millenary city. Put your favourite book under your arm, take a stroll around the narrow streets and squares, and get lost in evocations of the past that will teach you how to interpret and decipher the present and dream of the future. You will discover unimaginable places and passages of history and travel in time through passageways, gates and archways. Many may have long since disappeared yet their echoes still whisper to us as we pass by.

You will discover some of the sites and places on your route through the travellers from previous centuries, but others will be totally new to you. You will hear tell of Plinio the Elder as you stand among the Roman ruins; you will become intoxicated by the smell of jasmine and orange and lemon trees in the courtyards and gilded salons of the ´Alegria´; palace and you will be surprised by the sound of of The Troubadour coming from the battlements of its towers; you will need to pinch yourself to know that you are not dreaming as you accompany Don Quijote and Sancho on their wanderings around the Ebro lands and you will be horrified by the disasters of the war represented in ´Los Episodios´; by Galdós. Discover the ins and outs of the city with Pedro Saputo and you will realise that anything is possible and that dreams can come true, as with the story of the Manuscript found in Zaragoza; follow the steps of Gracián and Cajal; look for the settings depicted by Buñuel and Sender, paint with colours from Goya`s palette or listen in silence to simple verses by José Martí. These are just a few of the suggestions that can be enjoyed on this literary journey that allow you to be seduced by the essences of a past ambience that still captivates, surprises and, to a certain extent, calms us.
