Cultural Heritage Monument.

In the 16th century, the Coso was considered the most spacious and beautiful street in the city. As the setting for processions, Royal corteges and home to the Zaragoza nobility, it was chosen by the Count of Sagasto and Viceroy of Aragon, Don Artal de Aragon to build his sumptuous residence. The building was altered significantly over time, but its restoration (which merited the "Europa Nostra" award for cultural heritage) was greatly helped by the existence of the original working plans by the master Lope de Caucho.

The palace follows the renaissance model, but with some alterations which reflect new tendencies. The façade retains elements from the 16th century that have been modified in subsequent restorations. The present door is baroque, the original bricks were clear rather than red, and the blue used on the interior of many modest house windows seems inappropriate for such a grand palace. The interior courtyard is one of the most elegant and harmonious in the city.
